A cheap kit off a marketplace looks the same in the box, then fails you at the one moment you needed it — grainy at night, offline for a week without telling you, or streaming through some app on a server you don't control. Good cameras earn their keep quietly: you forget they're there until the day a guest queries a deposit or something goes missing, and the footage is simply there, clear, and easy to pull.
For a rental, cameras also come with rules. I place them for entrances, exterior and common areas only — never bedrooms, bathrooms or indoor living space — with visible notice, so you're covered and your guests are comfortable.
